Two girls run away from a mental institution and forge a relationship on the streets of New York. The Runaways (2010)
In 1975, San Fernando Valley teen Joan Larkin reinvents herself as Joan Jett, a guitarist who wants to form an all-girl punk band. She pitches the idea to a sleazy manager, Kim Fowley, who pairs her with a drummer and then searches for a face: he finds Cherie Currie, at 15 the perfect jailbait image for his purpose; by luck, she can sing. Two others round out the band, “The Runaways.” Fowley books a tour, signs them to Mercury Records, and packs them off to crowds in Japan. Seeds of conflict sprout early: Fowley puts Cherie front and center in the publicity, she’s soon strung out on pills and vodka, and jealousies arise. Without adult supervision, where can Joan and Cherie end up?

This movie is based upon the 1980 film which follows NYC talent attending the New York City High School for the Performing Arts, (Known today as Fiorello H. Laguardia High School) students get specialized training that often leads to success as actors, singers, etc.

Model Behavior (2000)
Opens with Alex at a party where she and her friend Sharon discuss Alex wanting to go to a ball with Eric Singer. When Alex tries to talk to him he tells her to move out of the way and is laughed at by some girls at the party. She gets home to her angry father who wants her to go into business and says she needs to go to sleep to get good grades so she can get into Harvard. She goes into her room and looks at a fashion magazine and wishes she could be a model. Next scene shows Janine ordering Chinese whose mother comes in and orders her something healthier. Her mother then announces that she is going away for a couple weeks and Janine is thrilled. Janine goes into her room and sees herself on TV.

Crossroads (2002)
Three friends get together and bury a box making a pact to open it at midnight at their high school graduation. In the little town in Georgia that they live in, things soon change. One is little miss perfect, one is an engaged prom queen, and the other is a pregnant outcast. The night of graduation, they open the box and they strike up a conversation. All of a sudden, one brings up the topic of her going to Los Angeles for a record contract audition. They all decide to go together and they leave. With a little money, they set out on the road with a guy named Ben. When one of them tells the other a rumor that he might be a homicidal maniac they are all scared of him. When they reach LA, Lucy (Britney Spears) falls in love with Ben and against her father’s wishes, she stays and she goes to the audition.

Telling Lies in America (1997)
Karchy (Brad Renfro) is a boy in school who has moved from Hungary to America in the 1960’s. He is struggling in school and trying to adjust to America’s culture. He then hears about a radio DJ Billy Magic (Kevin Bacon) who holds a contest for a Student Hall of Fame every week. When Karchy finally wins after several weeks, he spends more time with Billy Magic…a man with money, girls, and glam. Karchy thinks that by spending time with Magic, he can become “cool”. He then starts telling lies, to make himself seem greater than he really is. But when his lies begin hurting the people he cares about, he realizes that it isn’t worth telling lies if it affects your friends. Afterwards, he learns to accept himself for the person he is, and gives up lying. And as for Billy Magic, it turns out that he pays his price for all the lies that he has told as well.

The Challenge (2003)
Shane is very into nature and Lizzie is not. They are complete opposites, or so they think. Both enter to be in a TV show and the producers of the show think it would be fun to put them both on the same team when they hate each other. Shane lives in Los Angeles with her mom and Lizzie in Washington, D.C. with her dad. They haven’t seen each other in 2 years. They are both put on team Mayan and they have to try and get along for the sake of the team, and their college scholarships. They of course break some romance rules with some guys.

Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999)
In a small Minnesota town, the annual beauty pageant is being covered by a TV crew. Former winner Gladys Leeman wants to make sure her daughter follows in her footsteps. Explosions, falling lights, and trailer fires prove that. As the Leemans are the richest family in town the police are pretty relaxed about it all. Despite everything, main rival (but nice) Amber Atkins won’t be stopped. There could well be more death and disappointment to come.
